Prom Dress Drive

Need more closet space in your dorm room? Donate your old prom dresses to Mesa State’s Sociology Club for their fourth annual Prom Dress Drive. The club’s goal is to collect gently used prom dresses to give to underprivileged girls in the Grand Valley.
“This is a great way for students to give back,” Sociology Club’s Abigail Richardson said.
The drive has grown exponentially over the years. Even though the drive is completely student run, the club has formed partnerships with several local businesses and community members to help enhance the results of the drive.
The Tree House is helping organize the event and Jo’s Clothes, located at 251 Colorado Ave. has donated the space for the distribution.
Donations can also be taken to Lowell Heiny Hall or StarTek, located at 630 S. Seventh St. until March 25. Club members will also be on the first floor of the College Center on March 2 from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. collecting donations.
There are no monetary transactions necessary and the dresses are given away free of charge to anyone in need.
On March 25 from 6 p.m. – 8 p.m., the Sociology Club will help with the distribution in assisting the girls in choosing a dress and finding the right size.
Last year the Sociology Club had a total of 364 dresses collected, some donated, and 150 dresses were given away to Grand Valley high schools, project Hope and Job Core. This year, they have already collected 200 dresses, but many more are still needed.
