Spend your holidays at MSC: Residence halls stay open over break

For the first time, all residence halls at Mesa State will remain open for students over winter break. In the past, select halls have remained open for student occupancy during break. According to Director of Housing Chip Thomas, a great increase in the number of requests to stay on campus from students was the reason to keep all residence halls open during winter break.
Students who decide to stay on campus over their break will not be charged any extra money. A residente assistant will be required to stay over break in each hall to continue to assist students who remain on campus. Thomas said this was the best option to “meet the needs of Mesa State students.”
Thomas recognizes students’ growing need to stay on campus over break for J-term classes, work, and money issues. Many students must stay and work or go to class, or simply do not have the money to travel home this holiday season.
“We try to accommodate student needs the best we can and work constantly to maintain the services students require,” Thomas said.
Any student currently residing in residence halls is welcome to remain on campus through the winter break.
“It’s a great idea, especially for the students whose families don’t have the money to pay for them to spend the entire break at home,” sophomore Patrick Whalen, said.
Students who were worried about not having a place to stay over the break can rest at ease knowing their residence halls will remain available for them. As well as having the residence halls open over break the cafeteria and recreation center will remain open for students this winter.
The (department of and housing and residence life) can answer any further questions regarding residency, and can be reached at 248-1536. Happy holidays to all, whether you spend it at home, or in the comfort of your Mesa State residence hall.
