MSC has talent

The Black Student Alliance as well as the Housing and Residence Life Department will host a talent show Nov. 30, in the College Center ballroom. Tickets can be purchased at the door of the event. The talent show will begin at 7:30 p.m.
Partners is similar to the Big Brother and Big Sister programs. It matches at-risk children with people 16 and older who can act as their mentors.     The adult mentor is asked to spend three hours a week with the child and take him or her to activities, help them with homework, and help them develop self-esteem. The BSA will donate the money to the division of partners that deals with child education.
BSA member Jesse Bradford was more than happy to donate the money to this organization.
“Education is very important,” Bradford said. “It’s a way for me to give back to the community.”
The talent show will include dancers, singers and comedy.  Bradford said the goal of the talent show was to “help others while displaying the hidden talents of Mesa State students.”
Talent show judges will determine the winner of the event. The first, second, and third place winners will receive a prize for their performances in the talent show.
Next semester, BSA will be working with Partners to create a Big Brother-like program here on campus. There will be a sign-up sheet for people who are interested in joining at the talent show. For more information, contact BSA at 248-1239.
Tammie Rupe, the program manager of the mentoring division of Partners said, “We are always recruiting; we have 86 children currently on a waiting list for mentors.”
Partners welcomes anyone to become a part of their program. For more information partners can be contacted at 245-5555 extension 26.
Freshman Jennifer Underwood, 19, said, “It sounds like a lot of fun. It will be interesting to see what talent Mesa State has to offer.”
Bradford encouraged all students to attend.
“It will be a great night for a good cause,” said Bradford.
Tickets for the show are $5 for general admission and $3 for students. All of the proceeds from the event will be donated to the Partners organization.
