The College Center will have its grand opening on Friday. Parents, business owners and community members will discover what all the talk around campus—and town has been about.
There will be two events for students and community members. The community grand opening will be from 3-7 p.m. and the students’ event starts at 5 p.m. and will last until midnight. The two events will overlap in that two-hour window.
Members of the community will be provided with dinner and tours of the College Center. The Associated Student Government, Club Advisory Board, Cultural Diversity Board and Program and Activities Council have made the grand opening possible for students. This event, “Stealing Sin City,” will have casino type games and tournaments for students.
The Dance Society will perform a showgirl dance. The Criterion will conduct a fashion show and there will be game shows, speeches and much more. The band, Everybody Else, will perform in the ballroom at 8 p.m. Students can enter in a chance to win VIP passes to the event for them and a friend by adding ASG on Facebook and letting them know they are planning to attend. A light show will follow at 9 p.m.
For the fashion show, students should design their own clothes made out of past issues of the Criterion and show off their talent.
“The College Center is going to be a new welcoming place for the community and give them a chance to see what the college is up to,” said Katie Schultz, the ASG director of communications. “We now have the heart of the campus. I feel like the community will be able to see that when they come in for any event.”
There have already been several community events in the College Center ballroom, since it is able to hold large numbers of people.
“This is the night it is all going to start. It will definitely change the history of Mesa State,” Schultz said. “Our goal is to get thousands of students to come and we want them to look back on this night after they graduate and want them to remember this night.”
