Ladies say goodbye to Brownson with victory

It was a bittersweet finale for the volleyball team as they finished their home schedule with a sweep of CSU-Pueblo and a 3-1 win over Western State.
“We got caught up in what (Western) was doing on their side of the net,” coach Dave Fleming said. “We got lost from our own game. But much credit to them because they played great. But a win is a win.”
The Mavs jumped out to a 2-0 lead on the Mountaineers, but slipped in the third game, losing 27-25. After a back and forth battle, the ladies held on for the game four and match point.
“Teamwork was really important today,” senior Meagan Bosch said. “It’s always the ultimate team sport. We needed the good passes, the good sets, and the good swings to get by tonight.”
Bosch led the game with 23 kills. Sarah Kemp tallied 11 kills and a block and Antoinette McCormick had seven kills and four digs.
The team also honored their four seniors as they played in their final game at Brownson Arena.
“I’ve been dreading this day for awhile now,” Bosch said. “This is my home gym and I’m going to miss it.”
Despite having no more home games, the team feels confident that the rest of the season won’t be any more difficult.
“We have come to learn that we need to win on the road to finish the season,” Fleming said. “I think we will finish strong and adjust just fine.”
As for others on the team, the ladies look forward to going on the road and having some fun.
“It’s always going to be tougher on the road and we enjoyed our time at home,” Bosch said. “It’s going to be a lot of fun spending time away from our gym and we are just going to make sure we get the wins.”
The team’s final four games of the regular season are on the road, starting Friday when they take on New Mexico Highlands. Of the teams remaining, the Mavs have beaten all of them, going 12-1 combined in the four wins. With the Rocky Mountain Athletic Confernce tournament beginning Nov. 11, the ladies look to finish strong and make it into the national tournament.
