Christine “Chrissy” Anzlovar is a 22 year old going into her 4th year of college. Like most college students Anzolvar stays very busy. In addition to class and homework she is the Photo Editor and she is a life guard at the Hamilton Recreational Center.

“ I have been a life guard for seven years” said Anzlovar.

She has lived in Colorado for her entire life, although she definitely has lived in a lot of different places.

“ I moved around a lot in Colorado,” said Anzlovar “I was born in Denver, then moved to Colorado Springs, then back to Denver, then lived in Pueblo, then Aurora, and now Grand Junction.”  Moving around that much can make it hard for some people to adjust but Anzlovar saw it as an opportunity.

“Definitely moving around has made me open to making new friends” said Anzlovar. She lived in Aurora longer than any were else.  She attended Grand View High School. It was while she was at Grand View that she discovered her passion for photography.

“I took it as a class and I’ve been doing it ever since,” said Anzlovar.

After she graduated she zeroed in on Mesa State College. “The reason why I chose Mesa State College was because it was a small but growing campus,” said Anzlovar.  Even though she kept up with her craft, it took her two years before she became involved with the Criterion.

“I was more of an art based photographer but when I came here was more photo journalism based,” said Anzlovar
“I was so used to being in control of the shoot that I wanted but I had to learn to go with the flow.” After her first year as a photojournalist she has now moved up to Photo Editor, and is embracing the challenge like she has to all the challenges she has faced prior.

“I’ve always struggled with school,” said Anzlovar “I’m dyslexic and I have decoding issues, but I’m determined to work twice as hard as other students.” She was successful in the art world with her photography as well.

“I’ve submitted photography in a few art shows and won a couple of awards,” said Anzlovar.“I won 2nd place in my first art show.” Her path to journalism then led to other unexpected turns.

“I was a Business Marketing Major but after working for the Crite (Criterion) I felt like I should change,” said Anzlovar and she has now officially declared a major in Public Relations and Advertising. As the new Photo Editor she wants to continue the vision of her predecessor. “I would like to have more photos online so that people outside our community can see them” said Anzlovar. Her goal is to have: “great photos with a strong story.” Her philosophy as a photographer: “Go out and shoot and have fun. You can never have too many pictures. Just make it work.”
