Associated Student Government, in collaboration with President Tim Foster, has created a new program called President/Mesa State College Associated Student Government Recognition Award to recognize outstanding individuals who go above and beyond in their work at the MSC campus.
Foster approached ASG with the idea of rewarding individuals on campus who do more than asked of them and who go out of their way to be best they can be. This monthly award will recognize one faculty member, one staff member, and one student.
“This was started to recognize those outstanding students, faculty and staff that continue to make an impact on other’s lives here at MSC.” Ryan Hendershot, president of ASG, said.
For the month of March the staff member who won the award was Cathy Rickley. She is an administrative assistant in the Department of Social and Behavioral Science.
“I really appreciate an award selected by ASG, because students are the reason why we are here,” Rickley said.
Dr. Douglas O’Roark, history professor, was the faculty member recipient. He is a highly respected instructor in the Social and Behavioral Science Department and is always involved within the department.
“I really appreciated the recognition. It actually came at an opportune moment. I had given midterms in all my classes, so I was buried in blue books and was grinding my way through them when I found out. It provided a nice lift,” O’Roark said. “I’m not sure why I was selected because I know we have a lot of really great faculty at Mesa State. I definitely appreciate the award.”
The student who was selected was Greg Batchelder, psychology major who is very active in the Psychology Club. He also works at the TLC.
All recipients will receive a reserved parking spot on the first floor of the college center parking structure as well as a month membership to the Hamilton Recreation Center for the faculty and the staff recipients. The student recipient will receive a gift certificate to the MSC Bookstore. There may be other prizes added in the future.
The ASG committee who selects the winners will rotate among the selected departments so every Maverick has an opportunity to be selected.
