The second annual Wild & Scenic Environmental Film Festival will be hosted by Western Colorado Congress (WCC) at the Avalon Theatre on March 27.

This year the featured films range in topic from being environmentally conscious to healthy eating. The films include “Lords of Nature,” which explores the return of wolves to Yellowstone led by the research of biologist Cristina Elsenberg; “Nourish,” which features Anna Lappe and Cameron Diaz who discuss any and everything involving food and eating; and “Red Lady: The Battle of Your Mountains,” which features the citizens of Crested Butte’s fight against molybdenum mining.

“Films can help inspire citizens to stand up and speak out for a better environment,” said Lee Gelatt, organizer for the festival.

According to Gelatt, WCC is a local organization that has been around for 30 years to promote safe oil and gas regulations as well as sustainable living.

The doors for the festival open at 6 p.m. and movies start at 7 p.m. Tickets are $7 in advance and can be purchased at Whitewater West or Summit Canyon Mountaineering or they can be purchased at the door for $10. There will also be a chance to discuss the topic of featured films at the Rockslide Brewery after the showings.

“After people leave (the festival) they usually find that they are fired up to make a positive change in the country,” Gelatt said.
