The Mesa State College Residence Hall Association (RHA) will sponsor a “Day Without Hate,” on Wednesday.

This all-day event will be an opportunity for MSC students, faculty, and staff to wear white as an acknowledgement that they are part of a hate and violence-free community.

RHA will have tables outside the Academic Classroom Building throughout the day, so that students can get free white t-shirts or remember people who have been affected by school violence.

“‘A Day Without Hate’ is a great event to bring to any school. The program really appealed to us as RHA because school violence can happen anywhere, anytime, and for any reason,” said Liz Dearstyne, programming coordinator for RHA.

At 7 p.m. Wednesday RHA will conduct a reflection ceremony in ACB Lecture Hall, room 111. Brent Scarpo, an award-winning speaker, will present a “Journey to a Hate Free Millennium.” This documentary has won multiple awards and seeks solutions to ending hate and hate crimes that have become more frequent in intuitions for education.

RHA brought this event to campus because too many acts of violence have taken place in learning communities around the world. The members of RHA say that it is time to take a stand. It’s time to promote a campus full of love, hope and kindness, where senseless acts of violence are a thing of the past.

“It is important for our community at Mesa State to take a stand against hate,” Dearstyne said. “We think it is a great way to help students, faculty, and staff continue to thrive in a campus that makes everyone feel comfortable and welcome.”
