On Saturday, March 27 at 2 p.m. the Associated Student Government (ASG) will hold a remembrance ceremony for Mesa State students and recent graduates who have died.

“It’s a good outlet for family and friends to honor those they’ve lost,” said Ryan Hendershot, ASG President.

Nick Lopez, the ASG Vice President said he and Hendershot will speak at the event. After that the podium will be open to friends and family who wish to share any thoughts about those who will be honored. The ceremony will end with the release of ten balloons for each student who has passed away. The balloons will be the favorite colors of each student passed.

This ceremony, will honor nine students and their families. According to Hendershot, the ASG feels that the remembrance ceremony is a very important event, so much so that the event was written into the by-laws of ASG.

“We have a moment of silence before each [ASG] meeting to remember,” Hendershot said. “These students have touched a lot of lives at Mesa State.”

At least 75 are expected to attend the ceremony, including the Mesa State football team.

The memorial will be held in front of the Grand Mesa Residence Hall.
