With spring break just around the corner, students have been busy planning their week of excitement with friends. The Outdoor Program has organized another adventurous experience.
The program has planned two different trips. The first is an eight day trip to Cataract Canyon or the “classic river trip of Utah,” according to Outdoor Program Coordinator Chad Thatcher. Cataract Canyon is 80 miles of beautiful scenery and tough rafting, starting in Moab, Utah, and ending in Lake Powell.
The second trip to Cancun, is not the typical trip associated with spring break. After the flight to Cancun, students will travel down the border of Belize. They will go snorkeling, site seeing, and exploring rare limestone underwater caverns found near Yucatan, Mexico.
“The best part of the Outdoor Program is taking people and opening their horizons, and taking them out of their comfort zones in a controlled environment,” said Ryan Huebscher, member of the Outdoor Program. “Connecting with people and the energy of the river is important.” This will be Huebscher’s fourth trip to Cataract Canyon.
According to Huebscher, the Outdoor Program is the best if you’re looking for adventure and something out of life.
Thatcher said the program is a great chance to bond with fellow students in a different setting.
Students can receive Rafting 101 credits through the Outdoor Program as well as participate in other activities such as trips to Powderhorn on Thursdays, and beginning kayak lessons Wednesday night at the El Pomar Natatorium.
