Letter to the editor:

In the 2008 Presidential election, I will admit to having several semi-heated discussions with friends or peers about which candidate could best suit this country’s needs. I did not vote for President Obama in the elections, however when he was elected, I was interested in seeing what he would do for this country.
In the short year that he has been our President, I have become more and more leery about the direction that he is taking this country, so it came as a relief to me this past week to hear about the election of Republican Senator of Massachusetts, Scott Brown. Massachusetts spoke out loud and clear that after being a Democratic state for nearly 50 years, right now the Democrats just aren’t heading in the right direction. Now that the Republicans have gained strength they are putting all their efforts into stopping the progress of the Democrats.
With both parties now strongly pushing against each other, I am curious to see what kind of progress, if any, the government will make in coming years. What we really need to do, as Americans, is set aside our prejudices against members of the opposite political affiliation. Yes, people may disagree about who would be better suited to run this country, how the hospital bills should be paid, or what rights Americans should have. One thing I know for sure is that no one is going to make any progress by butting heads and trying to undermine the other. So go shake the hand of your neighbor that you haven’t spoken to since the 2008 election, and walk side by side, and let’s finally become the indivisible nation that we have pledged to be.
