What sporting events you should watch

With fall sports season right around the corner, here are some of the games that you should keep your eye on and attend for each sport. 

Football

After only playing three games in the fall, the Colorado Mesa University (CMU) Football team returns to Stocker Stadium for their first full season under Tremaine Jackson. 

You are not going to want to miss CMU open up the season at Stocker Stadium on Sept. 2 at 6 p.m against William Jewell College. 

There are two road games that you are going to want to tune into this season. The first one comes in the fourth week of the season on Oct. 2 in Pueblo, Colo. as the Mavericks take on Colorado State University- Pueblo (CSUP) at 2 p.m.

The road game against Western is another don’t miss game and takes place on Oct.30 at 1 p.m in Gunnison, Colo. 

Homecoming weekend is another big weekend for the football team as Colorado School of Mines (CSM) comes to town. The game will be on Oct.23 at 1 p.m. Coming into the season on the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC) preseason polls CSM was ranked to win the conference while CMU was ranked fourth. 

Volleyball

The volleyball team is ready to finish what they started. After winning all but one game in the 2021 spring season they will open with a tournament held at CSM.

The team will start their season with two tournaments one in Golden, Colo and one in Wichita Falls, Texas. 

The Mavericks will start conference play at home in their home opener against Metro State University- Denver (MSUD) on Sept.16 at 6 p.m. They will see MSUD again on Oct. 1 in Denver,Colo. 

A big road game for CMU will take place on Nov.6 at 5 p.m. as they take on CSM for the first time since CSM beat CMU in the RMAC Semifinals. 

Men’s Soccer 

The men’s soccer team will start their season after making it to the RMAC Championship game back in May with the Colorado Mesa Kickoff Weekend. 

The team will compete against Texas Permian Basin and Texas A&M International University on Sept. 2 and Sept.4 at 7 p.m

CMU will begin RMAC play on Sept. 22 on the road in Salt Lake City, Utah against Westminster College. 

As the Mavericks made their run in the conference tournament last season, they came up against a tough opponent in Regis University more than once. They will compete against them at home on Oct. 24 at 2:30 p.m. They will compete against the RMAC champions just five days later as they travel to Golden on Oct.29 to face CSM.

Women’s Soccer 

The Women’s Soccer team will start their season with Colorado Mesa University Kickoff Weekend on Sept. 3 against Texas Permian Basin at 7 p.m. They will then play Western Oregon University Sept.5 at noon. 

Their first conference game will be against Black Hills State University at Maverick Field on Sept.26 at 1 p.m. Their first road conference game will be at CSUP on Oct.1. That road trip will also include a trip to Colorado Springs as CMU takes on the University of Colorado- Colorado Springs.
