Volleyball travels to Tarleton State

    The Colorado Mesa volleyball traveled to Stephenville, Texas this weekend to take part in the Tarleton State Tournament.

After winning the last two gamesoftheOrediggerClassic, the Mavs extended their win streak to six games after going perfect and winning four games at the TexAnn Volleyball Invitational this past weekend.

In the first match of the weekend Colorado Mesa played Lubbock Christian and ended up winning 3-1 (25-14, 22-25, 25-18, 25-17).

 

    The Mavericks were led by Mackenzie Edwards and Gabriela Dias. Edwards had a career high of 22 kills while Dias added 14 kills of her own. To go with the 60 kills, the Mavs added 11 blocks with eight from Hattie Gianinetti.

During the second game of the day, CMU took on the host team Tarleton State. The Mavs handed Tarleton State their first loss of the season with a 3-0 victory

(25-17, 25-22, 25-20) in front of their home crowd. Edwards was featured once again as she led the team with 13 kills. Following her were Gianinetti with 10 kills and Alyssa Chutka with nine kills.

The next day the Mavs beat Eastern New Mexico by a score of 3-1 (25-18, 28-26, 23-25, 25- 22). CMU was led by Edwards again who had 15 kills. Chutka was next with 15 kills and three blocks. Following her was Ali Svorinic with 10 kills herself. She also added 46 assists.

 

    In the last match of the weekend, the Mavs were able to finish of the tournament sweep by beating Texas A&M Commerce by a score of 3-1 (25-20, 23-25, 25-21, 25-12). CMU was led by freshman Allison Smith who had 13 kills while the Mavs were paced by Zie Edwards who led the team with 19 kills.

The Mavs look to extend their winning streak when they take on Western State Colorado University 4-4 (0-0 RMAC) in Gunnison.
