The Model Display, two display cases, that the Grand Junction Modelers Society (GJMS) has been using to introduce people to the art of building models have been moved to Houston Hall at Colorado Mesa University.

According to Chris Neilsen, spokesman for the GJSM, these showcases have been displayed  at Walker Field Airport and the Veterans Administration Hospital. It was displayed for the last ten years at the hospital before coming to CMU.

“The reason modelers build kits is for enjoyment but also the connection to a historical event or realistic rendition of a real item,” said Neilsen.

“This display consists of military models from World War II to present day,” President of Student Veterans Associated Braydon Gear said. “These models represent military power and history. The models are extremely important to have outside the Veterans Lounge because some of these models represent our student veterans’ service. The Student Veterans Association was contacted by the Grand Junction Scale Modelers Society about finding a new home for their display. Both the SVA and the Grand Junction Scale Modelers Society believe that the new home for these models should be by the Veterans Lounge in Houston hall for both the veterans and the students. This display gives CMU students an opportunity to learn about military history.”

“With the V.A. remodeling, the opportunity to display in a new site is exciting for our organization. We hope that this will add to the education of all that get the chance to view our work,” said Neilsen.

The display is currently located in Houston Hall right outside of the Veterans Lounge.
