When it comes to shopping, many college students may find themselves to be confined by a budget much smaller than they might wish. This October, however, is the third annual Mav Month, making it the perfect time to shop downtown and support local businesses.

Mav Month is a promotion in which a variety of businesses in Downtown Grand Junction offer a 10 percent discount to all Colorado Mesa University students. As the list on the Downtown Grand Junction website currently stands, these are the businesses that will be participating in Mav Month:

Bee Smooth: Bee smooth offers full-body waxing services for both men and women.

Dog Dynasty: Dog Dynasty offers grooming and a la carte menu services for canines, as well as opportunities for dogs to socialize.

Gelato Junction: Gelato Junction carries a variety of different flavors of gelato and ice cream, as well as a free tasting bar.

Grand Valley Books: Grand Valley Books, as is suggested by the name, is a local bookstore designed to cater to one’s literary needs.

Main Street Café: Main Street Café sells a variety of food ranging from hot wings, omelets and burgers, to hot dogs, sandwiches and hot fudge sundaes.

Triple Play Records: Triple Play Records carries an assortment of new and used Vinyl, CDs, tapes and golf discs, as well as other accessories such as t-shirts and incense.

Willow Creek Herbs and Tea: Willow Creek Herbs and Tea sells a variety of organic herbs and tea, as well as arts and crafts of both native and local origin.

Mav Month will be taking place from Oct. 1-31. Don’t forget your MavCard to get the deals.
