The Mavericks win their fourth consecutive game

The Mavericks held the Hawks scoreless in the second half to pull out their 8-4 win.

The Mavericks held the Hawks scoreless in the second half and overcame a hot goalie to win 8-4 over Quincy University (QU).  

Redshirt sophomore midfielder James Steinke and redshirt senior attackman Carson Schwark both scored three points in the game. Steinke scored one goal and recorded two assists in the game.  

Schwark scored three goals in the game to move himself up the career scoring ladders at Colorado Mesa University (CMU). Schwark is now tied for seventh in the most points scored in a career with 91 and he is tied with Daniel Caddoo. He also moved into sixth in most career goals with 68 passing Austin Pridham who scored 66 in his career.  

QU’s goalie Ryan Riggs did everything he could to keep the Hawks in the game as he recorded 28 saves in the game.  

Jordan Ernst got the Hawks on the board first in the game on a man-up opportunity with 10:28 remaining in the first quarter. Blaine Lowrance gave QU a 2-0 lead six minutes later as he buried a shot into the back of the net off an assist from Jayme Brian.

Freshman midfielder Logan Smith got CMU on the scoreboard with just three seconds left in the first quarter to bring the Mavericks within one goal.  

Ernst and Preston Willman scored the final goals of the game for the Hawks to put them up 4-1 with 10:02 remaining in the second quarter. Steinke scored his lone goal of the game with 6:01 left in the second quarter to get the Maverick’s offense going. Schwark scored his first goal of the game off an assist from redshirt sophomore attackman Alex Blatt to bring CMU within one goal with 52 seconds remaining in the first half. 

Schwark tied the game up at four with 12:21 left in the third quarter off an assist from Steinke. Redshirt sophomore attackman Jed Brummett put CMU up 5-4 with 9:52 left in the third quarter in transition off an assist from redshirt sophomore defender Jake Eickelman.  

Redshirt sophomore midfielder Trent Pernell scored the final goal of the third quarter to put the Mavericks up by two goals three minutes later.  

Redshirt sophomore attackman/midfielder AJ Switzer scored on a man-up opportunity with 9:03 left in the game to put CMU up 7-4. Schwark scored the final goal of the game with seven minutes left in the game to put the Mavericks up by four goals.  

Redshirt sophomore goalie Nolan Hoffman recorded six saves in the game. He allowed four goals in 60 minutes of play.  

The Mavericks caused eight of the Hawk’s 30 turnovers in the game. Both teams picked up 18 grounds balls in the game, and each team scored one extra-man opportunity as there were 10 total penalties in the game.  

The Maverick’s next game is Saturday, April 16 at 11:00 a.m. against Rockhurst University in Kansas City, Mo.
