The Mavericks completed the series sweep from the Roadrunners making them 22-2 on the season.

Colorado Mesa University freshman infielder Harrison Rodgers led the offense with two home runs against Metro State University- Denver.

Rodgers first home run came in the second inning as junior infielder Caleb Farmer and senior designated hitter Tanner Rempel were waiting for him on base. The home run was a deep shot over the wall and into the parking lot in right field.

Three innings later, Rodgers came up to bat again with only one runner on this time in redshirt senior Wacy Crenshaw. On the first pitch he saw in that at bat, he drove that one to right field again.

Rodger finished the game going 2-4 with two runs scored and five runs batted in (RBI).

The rest of the Mavericks bats continued to light up the MSUD pitching staff as starter Jimmy Dobrash only went four innings against CMU.

CMU scored first in the final game of this series as sophomore outfielder Tanner Garner advanced to third on a passed ball and scored on the play as well. The Roadrunners responded with a Chase Anderson single that allowed Owen Reynolds to score.

After they were down 4-1 going into the third, Bill Ralston homered down the left field to make it a two run game.

Junior catcher Spencer Bramwell responded for the Mavericks with a double that junior outfielder Matt Turner scored on. Opening the gap more, Crenshaw singled to right field allowing two Mavericks, Bramwell and junior infielder Jordan Stubbings to score.

Not backing down without a fight, Jake Williams hit a three-run home run to the center field wall. CMU then had only a two run lead again but this time at 7-5.

Looking to get some insurance runs on the board for his team. Bramwell homered to center field on the first pitch that he saw in his at bat. Stubbings would score on the home run as well.

Farmer laid down a bunt to the third baseman but was initially out on the play. As Rempel came across to score the bunt went down as a sacrifice play for Farmer.

When the ninth inning came around the Mavericks had a comfortable 12-5 lead. But again the Roadrunners were ready to battle. A Caleb Albaugh homerun put his team within six runs of the Mavericks. Williams had another RBI to his name as he doubled to score Bill Ralston.

CMU pulled out the victory with a 12-7 win to finish off their weekend.

The Mavericks turned to left-handed freshman Kannon Handy to finish the series. Even though Handy got in traffic jams at times, he pitched a clean solid game. He was able to go five innings with six strikeouts, two walks, eights hits and five earned runs.

In what turned out to be a save situation, right-handed pitcher Cade Nicol came in to finish the final four innings. He was able to strike out seven Roadrunners while walking one, giving up two runs and three hits.

The Mavericks will hit the road next weekend as they travel to Denver, Colo. to take on Regis University (RU).

CMU and RU already met once this season in a pod-series that CMU hosted earlier this season. The Mavericks won both games against the Rangers 6-3. The two will partake in a four game series starting April 16 at 3 p.m.
