The Mavericks rout the Thunderwolves

The Mavericks controlled the faceoff x as they won 20 of 23 faceoffs to win 19-2 over the Thunderwolves.

The Mavericks win 19-2 over the Thunderwolves, and they were able to play make-it-take-it lacrosse as they won 20 of the 23 faceoffs in the contest. 

Redshirt freshman faceoff man Cole Emmanuel finished the game with two goals and one assist. He went eight for nine from the faceoff x in Colorado Mesa University’s (CMU) win.  

Freshman midfielder Logan Haar scored a game-high four points as he finished with three goals and one assist. The Mavericks had five different players finish with three points against the Thunderwolves.  

Emmanuel scored the first goal of the game just six seconds into the first quarter as he took the first faceoff, raced downfield to bury one past Garrett BreelingCMU took the momentum from Emmanuel’s goal and scored six more goals before the first quarter ended

With a 7-0 lead, freshman midfielder Sergio Pelayo extended the Mavericks lead with 13:35 left in the second quarter. CMU’s offense kept rolling as they put up 12 goals before Colorado State University-Pueblo (CSUP) scored their first goal of the game.  

Logan Wells got the Thunderwolves on the board in the second quarter as he caught a pass from Trenton Steele to bury a shot in the back of the net.  

Freshman midfielder/attackman Jackson Palmer answered with a goal just 27 seconds before the first half ended to put CMU up 13-1. Emmanuel scored his second goal of the game with 10 seconds left in the first half to give the Mavericks the momentum going into the halftime break.  

Keyes scored the first goal of the second half on a man-up opportunity for CMU with 9:45 left in the third quarterThe Mavericks scored two more goals in the third quarter to push their lead 17-1.  

Freshman attackman/midfielder Hunter Holcomb got the Mavericks on the board in the fourth quarter as their offense continued to dominate the game. Haar scored the final goal for CMU to push their lead to 19-1 to cap off their big win over a conference opponent. Kaelen Santana scored CSUP’s final goal of the game with 32 seconds left in the game to try to end on a positive for the Thunderwolves. 

CMU assisted on eight of their 19 goals against the Thunderwolves as their ball movement was able to create opportunities for everyone.  

The Mavericks had six different players score two or more goals in the contest.  

Freshman faceoff man Dylan Checketts was a perfect nine for nine at the faceoff x against CSUP.

CMU’s next game is Friday, April 16 at 7 p.m. against Colorado College in their home opener at Maverick Field.
