The Mavericks Women’s Basketball team were able to gather a pair of mid-week wins to bring their win streak to six.

In Colorado Mesa University’s first game of three this week, the combination of graduate student guards Daniella Turner and Mariah Martin combined for 54 points that outscored the New Mexico Highlands University (NMHU).

CMU had their strongest quarter in the last ten minutes of the first half. They shot 52.6% from the field in the second quarter.

With 30 points and nine rebounds, Martin led the team in those respective categories as well as she was able to have eight assists throughout the game. The majority of her points came from the field as she went 12-20, she also was perfect from the line as she went 6-6.

The Mavericks starters used the cohesiveness and confidence to glide past the Cowgirls to a 82-53 victory. CMU’s starters scored 72 of the 82 points scored throughout the game.

Freshman forward Lauryn Deede led the Mavericks bench as she scored five points and had one rebound throughout the eight minutes she played.

On Wednesday, the Mavericks traveled to Colorado Spring, Colo. for another rescheduled game as they took on University of Colorado- Colorado Spring (UCCS). They were able to get the 69-63 win.

The Mavericks starters continued to impress as they were able to drive past the Mountain Lions defense to get to the basket. Even though the team’s shooting percentage was down from last night they were still able to win the possession game.

Martin had another solid night on the hardwood as she continued to prove that not only as an offensive player she can also be dominant on defense as well. While shooting 25 points for CMU, she had five rebounds and five steals.

Starting guard for the Mountain Lions, Shelby Megyrei scored 18 points and could not be stopped from the perimeter as she shot three perfect threes.

Graduate student forward Kelsey Siemons was the only Maverick to find success from the arc as she went 3-5. Siemons also led the team in rebounds with eight.

The Mavericks continue their three game road trip in Alamosa, Colo. to take on the Adams State University Grizzlies on Feb 11 at 5:30 p.m.
