The Mavericks Swim and Dive teams started the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC) Meet off strong as the first day of competition came to a close.
In the finals on day one, the Colorado Mesa University (CMU) relay teams both came out strong and set the bar high for the rest of the night. The women’s and men’s teams both won the 200 free relay to start off the night by having NCAA qualifying times.
Amelia Kinnard has really shined for the Mavericks this season and continued her success in the women’s 1,000 free. She beat her own school record with a 10:15.93. The Mavericks placed first, third and fifth in the event.
Another record was broken when Lily Borgenheimer got in the pool to compete in the 200 individual medley. She broke the RMAC, El Pomar and CMU record with a time of just seconds over two minutes.
Davy Brown set the CMU record in the prelims this morning and Brogenheimer beat it by 1.2 seconds.
Not only did the women get it done in the distance events but they got it done in the sprints as well. Julie Day can be named the fastest swimmer in the RMAC as she won the 50 free in 23.74 seconds.
Lane Austin was able to take the men’s 50 free title in 20.22 seconds but not far behind was his teammate Mado Elkady.
The Mavericks closed off the night the same way they started the evening, as both teams were able to win in the 200 medley relay.
CMU’s Women’s team leads the pack with a score of 387.5 at the end of day one. Colorado School of Mines is in second with 2017.5. The men’s team has a significant lead over the second place mines as well with 323.5 points.
Action continues on Feb.10 at 9 a.m. as the prelims for day two get underway. The finals will begin at 5 p.m.
