Yuliya Stepanova and Vitaly Stepanov, the Russian athlete and official who exposed widespread institutional doping of Russian sports, will speak at Colorado Mesa University Wednesday night.
The free event, open to the public, will begin at 7:30 p.m. in the south Meyer Ballroom in the University Center.
The speaking event is the last of a three-day ethics lecture series sponsored by the Daniels Fund Ethics Initiative, CMU athletics and the CMU Student Center for Public Trust Chapter.
In 2014, Stepanova secretly recorded conversations with coaches, athletes and a doctor to prove the existence of the illegal doping.
The married couple appeared in a German documentary that alleged the scandal in a public way for the first time.
What followed was a series of internal investigations that corroborated these allegations and Russia was formally barred from participating in the recent Olympics; their athletes competed under a neutral flag.
The ethics lecture begins Monday with a showing of “All the Queen’s Horses.” Tuesday will host Weston Smith, Healthsouth‘s whistleblower.
