Colorado Mesa University’s Programming Activities Council announced two weeks ago they will be presenting Lil Yachty for this year’s spring concert.
PAC is setting up the stage on Saturday, April 28 on CMU’s Grand Mesa Quad. Entrance begins at 6 p.m., and the show starts at 7 p.m. with Dizzy Wright as the opening act.
Lil Yachty is an American recording artist who first gained recognition in 2015 after dropping his singles “One Night” and “Minnesota.” He launched his career in December 2015 when the SoundCloud version of his song, “One Night,” was used in a viral comedy video.
Lil Yachty has over 12 million monthly listeners on Spotify.
Dizzy Wright is a Bone Thugs-n-Harmony influenced independent recording artist who began his music career in 2010 after impressing the record label, Funk Volume with his performance on the “Sheikh Music Rip the Mic Competition.”

CMU’s contract negotiations for Lil Yachty as the spring act began in November 2017 with Lil Boat’s Selling Team, LLC. CMU spent a total of $65,000 for the one-night performance, the most they have paid out of recent artists.
The headlining event for PAC every year, and what takes the largest piece of PAC’s budgetary pie, is the organization’s campus concert, which they are apportioned $87,694 of the yearly $204,443 budget to put on. The event has, in the past, hosted Macklemore, Atmosphere and G-Eazy.
In previous years, American Authors cost $40,000, G-Eazy cost $30,000, Macklemore cost $45,000, Atmosphere cost $65,000 and 3OH!3 cost CMU $50,000, according to numbers provided by CMU Student Life.
With the concert quickly approaching, some students are getting excited to see how things will play out this year.
“I’m pretty stoked about it,” Jordan Manuel, a student at CMU said, “it’s better than like our past two concerts we’ve had.”
The American Authors concert in the fall of 2016 garnered 1,262 students in attendance, according to numbers provided by CMU Student Life.
Tickets for the spring concert are on sale from now until the day of the event.
Admission is free for CMU students with a MAVCard upon entry, and tickets are $25 for community members.
Tickets can be purchased on the CMU website under the Student Life tab. Tickets will also be available on the day of the performance at the door with a $30 fee.
