As the semester starts, many students look for jobs to tide them over for the school year. Colorado Mesa University (CMU) offers work study for students who would like a job on campus.
There are many job opportunities on campus. There are student workers in many departments, including financial aid, admissions, Tomlinson Library, Hamilton Recreation Center, residence halls and more. There is also custodial and food service work available. Some students have paid positions in organizations on campus also.
To find a job on campus, students can go to the Applications tab in their MavZone and log into the Handshake app. The app will allow students to apply for on campus jobs.
One thing to remember when applying is that during the school year, hours are restricted to only 20 a week. This allows students to focus on school and supervisors will work around class schedules.
If a student is not awarded work study, they can still apply for jobs and have their supervisor get them into the system. They can also wait until the first week of school, Aug. 23 to Aug. 27 to fill out a work study application.
“Working on campus comes with a lot of benefits. You can walk to work, they let you put school first and you make some great friends. I have had a lot of fun in my time as a student worker,” sophomore Teacher Education major Dane Campbell said.
Not all jobs on campus require a work study, there will be opportunities on campus for students who do not qualify for it. These jobs can also be seen in the Handshake app. If there are no jobs on campus and a student wants help, they can contact Career Services for help with resume building and interview preparation.
Multiple job fairs are held on campus during the semester and students are advised to keep an eye on the event calendar to stay updated on the dates. Job fairs bring in opportunities for off campus jobs and may also have internships available.
