Nolan Arenado continues to shock the world as he decides to go back to where it all started.

Only after one season with the St.Louis Cardinals, Arenado made a statement late on Mar. 23 that he will finish the season in Missouri but will go back to play for the GJ Rockies in the Summer of 2023.

“I have decided that it is best for my family if I take a step back from the spotlight and go back to Grand Junction to play in the Pioneer League. I want to thank the Colorado Rockies and the St. Louis Cardinals for taking the chance on me but this is what is best for me at this time,” Arenado said to the media outside of the Cardinal’s spring training facility.

Arenado will also change positions as the GJ Rockies has a locked-down third baseman for the next few years.

He stated that he wanted to try something new and going back to the GJ Rockies does that for him. He also wanted to do the best thing for his new team and if changing positions is that then he is willing to do so. Arenado will compete for a spot in the outfield next spring.

Multiple Pioneer league teams were in on getting Arenado. His other options were the Rocky Mountain Vibes or the Missoula Paddleheads. The Rockies were Arenados top pick as that is where he started his career before the team went into an independent league
