The Division Two Conference Commissioners Association (D2CCA) announced the baseball players of the year and the Mavericks highlight the list.
Sophomore designated hitter Haydn McGeary received the National Player of the Year honor after a terrific season at the plate. McGeary led Division Two baseball in hits (88), doubles (26) and runs batted in (88). He also ended the season with 20 home runs.
McGeary also landed the Player of the Year honors by the National College Baseball Writers Association for Division Two player of the Year and South Central Region Player of the Year. D2CCA also named him Player of the Year in the South Central Region. McGeary was also the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC) Player of the Year.
Other Mavericks were also recognized by the D2CCA with All-American honors.
Sophomore right-handed pitcher Andrew Morris, junior catcher Spencer Bramwell and junior outfielder Matt Turner were honored for their stellar performances they put on this season.
Morris dominated the mound by throwing 115 strikeouts through his 78 innings pitched this season. He was also awarded other honors after the regular season like RMAC Pitcher of the Year.
Bramwell continued his success behind the plate on defense as well as on offense. He ended the season with 56 and 12 of those hits were doubles. He also had 10 home runs and 56 RBIs on the season.
Turner made a name for himself this season as he had a lot of success offensively for the Mavericks. He finished the season leading Division Two baseball in home runs with 23.
The Mavericks look to continue their success when they get back to work in Fall of 2021.
