I tried Kim Kardashian’s diet for a day

When I volunteered my pizza-loving soul to this diet, I almost slapped myself. Even though I only had the time to eat like her for a day, I would much rather eat Taco Bell and binge watch “Keeping Up With The Kardashians” than be a Kardashian for a day. Although, I was pleasantly surprised with the Kim Kardashian diet.

After Kim gave birth to her son, Saint, she wanted to lose all of the weight she had gained. According to Kim’s nutritionist, Colette Heimowitz, from an online article in Elle Magazine, Kim did not eat more than 1,800 calories a day to help her lose her baby weight.

I was a little nervous at first because I eat a lot! I love food. Who doesn’t? After researching what I needed to eat to be like Kim, some weight was lifted off my shoulders.

I work at a gym so I have put myself through some pretty strenuous diets, and this one I was not too worried about. My main obstacle was getting off my lazy butt to go shopping for food and then, even worse, cooking it. I’m more of a pop-it-in-the-microwave type of girl.

I could not find the exact ingredients to go into every meal, but I improvised to the best of my knowledge. Kim has been doing the Atkins Diet for a while now, and even more so after her pregnancy.

For breakfast, she would eat an egg omelette with cheese and vegetables. For lunch, something like grilled chicken with squash or a spinach salad with ranch dressing. Dinner time would consist of zucchini noodles with spicy chicken sausage, or something similar, and for dessert she would have an Atkins’ peanut butter cup.

In between meals she would consume a light snack of either vegetables with hummus or greek yogurt and berries. That is all the information I found considering I did not want to actually sign up for the Atkins diet.

I woke up the first morning semi-excited to eat healthy. When you go to sleep knowing what you are going to eat the next day, it gives you more motivation to eat healthy. For breakfast I made exactly what I saw in the picture given from Elle Magazine- eggs, broccoli and cheese. Not too bad! It was actually pretty good for my cooking abilities. I left the house full and energized.

When you are a full time student it is hard to pack a lunch, so I just carried around vegetables and hummus – delicious! This day had been going pretty great so far. Except, I hardly eat healthy so some people were giving me crap because they were surprised.

For lunch I made it home to eat the chicken that was already grilled up and then I tried to compliment it with butternut squash. Not my cup of tea, I must say. This was my hardest meal of the day because I am not a fan of squash!

It tastes fine, but the consistency is, how do I put this, I would rather eat baby food than put whatever I had concocted into my mouth. I have never tried to cook squash before and no one would probably ever want to eat the disaster I had created.

“Why didn’t you eat the spinach salad then?” You might have asked.

Good question. Because who wants to eat spinach unless they have to?

Dinner time was my favorite meal. Zucchini noodles taste like regular noodles to me, and who doesn’t like sausage? Alright, don’t answer that.

Anyway, I added some low-fat alfredo sauce and voilå, a delicious dish that anyone would appreciate.

Finally, it was time for dessert. Obviously I did not have Atkins’ peanut butter cups, so I improvised and ate a protein peanut butter cup from Quest Bar.

Luckily, I had some on hand because I’m healthy and all (winky face). It was good, but definitely not a Reese’s. It was better than no dessert at all.

After a long day of school and trying to be Kim Kardashian, I nestled into bed feeling accomplished and somewhat healthier than I was before. Although I was satisfied from the diet, I am probably not going to continue because of my own personal preferences, but I would recommend it to anyone who wants to try it.

Eating healthy does not mean hating yourself; it just means taking time out of your day to actually try. You can live a healthy lifestyle and still eat delicious food.
