Fees to increase

3013

Student fees are set to increase by $2.90 per credit hour for the Fall 2021 semester, from the current $32.10 to a flat $35.

Student fees help fund various student organizations in Student Life like Associated Student Government (ASG), the University Center and the Maverick Center.

“We are sensitive to the rates our students pay, and we try to keep tuition, fees, and other rates low with nominal increases,” Director of Budgets and Food Service Programs Whitney Sutton said.

Part of the reasoning for the increase was a dip in enrollment. Student fees have been fairly steady the past couple years, with a few slight increases from $29.08 per credit hour paid by students in Fall 2017.

“Students do have the right to appeal,” Chief Financial Officer of ASG Logan Taylor said. “The appeal period is April 6 through May 6, at midnight.”

How to appeal:

Appeals must be submitted in writing to CMU’s Vice President of Finance. To file an appeal, students have to fulfill a few requirements:

1) A reason for the appeal
2) An alternative proposal
3) A petition that contains both the signatures and 700 numbers of no fewer than 3% of enrolled students (around 275 or so).
