Colorado Mesa University women’s basketball snapped their two-game losing streak on Saturday, using an efficient offense to get past New Mexico Highlands by a final score of 75-44.
The Mavericks turned it on in the second half, scoring 23 and 21 points in the third and fourth quarter.
CMU rebounded from a woeful shooting night on Friday, hitting 14 three-pointers, a season-high. Jaylyn Duran bounced back after a rough two-game stretch, scoring 18 points on 6-of-16 shooting. Duran hit six three-pointers, tieing a season high.
Erin Reichle led the Mavericks in scoring with 19 points on 7-of-13 shooting with six rebounds and five assists. Reichle and Duran combined for 11 of the team’s 14 three-pointers.
Sydni Brandon started for Karina Brandon, who was out for the game due to a minor injury. Brandon posted a season-high in points and rebounds with 11 and 15, her first double-double of the season. Brandon dished out four assists and had one steal.
Highland had 15 turnovers. The Mavericks took advantage and scored 20 points off turnovers. CMU received 19 points from the bench and had their largest lead at 31 in the fourth quarter.
The Mavericks shot 42.9 percent (25-of-59) on the night and 50 percent in the second half. CMU limited Highlands to 30.6 percent (15-of-49) shooting.
CMU finishes the regular season at 19-9 with a 13-9 Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference record.
With the Mavericks clinching a spot as the seventh seed in the RMAC tournament, they will head to Denver to play the two seed, MSU Denver, on Tuesday. The two teams split the season series 1-1.
