With the new COVID-19 guidelines on campus, which can be found under the COVID tab on the website, organizations are able to hold events more frequently in the Fall 2021 semester.

During the early start week for incoming freshmen, there will be a kickoff BBQ along with Residence Hall activities and a scavenger hunt put on by the Associated Student Government (ASG). On Aug. 20, there will be a club fair that will feature many clubs and organizations on campus for the incoming freshmen to join. Club events and information can also be found on the Presence app in MavZone.

“Clubs are a great way to make friends and participate in fun activities. They become a great place to be and thrive,” junior Outdoor Recreation major Natasha Kostovski said.

Following that is Welcome Week, starting on Aug. 22. It will kick off with a Sunday Funday that is set up as a small carnival. This will include a BBQ on Monday, meeting with the president on Tuesday and mystery bingo on Wednesday. There will also be a DIY ceramic tile making on Thursday and a glow party on Friday. Times and location can be viewed on the website or on Instagram. As campus loosens restrictions, there will be an uptick in events.

In October, Homecoming week will have a plethora of activities for every student. There will be a parade on Main Street, a carnival, a football game and tailgate, as well as the usual bonfire and other small activities.

“I want to have more of the campus involved, Residence Life and other organizations will be helping with Homecoming to get more students involved,” Director of External for ASG Carson Collins said.

Future events are in the works, including community work and partnership with an animal shelter for an adoption event according to Collins.

Along with ASG, Student Life, Residence Life, Program Activities Council, and other organizations and clubs will be hosting events. Many of these events will be advertised on organization specific Instagram pages, but the best place to see what is happening around campus is the new Presence app that can be found in MavZone.

“I think getting all the clubs out there, all the [organizations] out there, doing social media campaigns and collaborating with other departments and across campus […] will help to have a fresh perspective. I am looking forward to working with all the students, I am dying to see everyone back on campus,” Assistant Director of Student Life Greer Hanes said.

There will be many places on campus for students to go and there is a club for almost every interest a student could have. Colorado Mesa University  has had an overwhelming consensus between staff and students to make 2021-2022 the best year possible with our new normal.
