The Colorado Mesa women’s soccer team was back in action at Walker Field on Sunday afternoon against Western State with a 1-0 win. The Mavericks now has a two game winning streak after the victory and it was their second consecutive shutout.

The Mavericks scored within the first ten minutes of this game with Alexis Allard finding the net for the second time during this season. With her two goals Allard has four points and 14 shots on the year in the 10 games she has played.

Colorado Mesa was able to give a solid defensive performance and hold Western to only two shots in total with zero of them being on target. The Mavericks were able to keep the ball in their control for the most part with 15 shots and eight of them being goal.

Western’s goal keeper Kaela Noble did have seven saves but the lone goal by Allard was enough for CMU to seal the win.

The Mavericks are going into their last 6 games of the season with a record of 6-4-1 and a record of 3-1 in RMAC play.  New Mexico Highlands (0-9) makes their way to Grand Junction after losing a close game Sunday afternoon to Black Hills State. Colorado Mesa will face off against the Cowboys on Oct.7 at 7 p.m.
