CMU blast six home runs in home opener

Bramwell knocked three balls over the fence and had five total RBI as the Mavericks rack up 22 runs in a game since March 30, 2019.

The Maverick offense produced six home runs including three from Spencer Bramwell in a big 22-5 victory against ninth ranked Southern New Hampshire University.

Bramwell does not slow down. After hitting the go-ahead home run in the season opener against Nova Southeastern last weekend, the junior catcher hit not one, not two but three over the fence in CMU’s return to Suplizio Field. Bramwell also added two more RBIs to his day in the eighth.

“I just got good pitches to hit, took good swings it worked well last weekend so I continued the approach worked with the coaches and it worked out,” Bramwell said.

Bramwell wasn’t the only Maverick to have a multi-home run day. Senior outfielder Tyler Parker knocked his first two homers of the spring. Bramwell and Parker hit back to back shots in the second to get CMU on the board.

“I saw the ball well in my first at bat so I was pretty much just trying to be on time. And then Bramwell hit his second so I guess I was just trying to keep up with him,” Parker said. “Then his third was just to rub it in I guess.”

Tanner Garner added to the run total in the second as he hit a three run home run to add to Bramwell and Parkers in the second. Garner’s home run allowed Jonathan Gonzalez and Blaine DeMello to score.

Garner and Parker both went 3-4 on the day while Bramwell finished 4-5.

From there on, literally every ounce of possible momentum of the game shifted in the favor of CMU. Every Maverick that started on Friday got on base.

“We had a good week of practice knowing that we had a good team coming in, and we like playing good teams since it will help us at the end of the year.” Parker said.

Andrew Morris got the start on the mound again Friday.  After getting settled in, he gave up only two runs and five hits through his five innings of work. Morris would earn his first win of the season.

Coming off of a good relief appearance last weekend, Josh Danyliw was given the ball after Morris once again. Danyliw could not find his rhythm this time as he walked six, hit two and allowed three runs in two and two thirds inning.

Anthony Durbano got the save for the Mavericks as he came in to close in his second appearance as a Maverick.
