With so many programs performing at a high level this year at Colorado Mesa University, it can be a challenge to keep up with all the competition and keep things updated.

Club sports at CMU are having their fair share of success as well, so it’s time to dive in with Club Sports Weekly and find out how our club teams did this past weekend.

Nordic Skiing

The weather has been in perfect conditions lately for the skiing team to put together great finishes. One thing is for certain: The team is competing tough and actually made quite the mark at the UW Invite in Laramie, WY.

The CMU men placed 2nd in the 1.2km team sprint relay while the women finished in third. The competition was strong but both men and women were able to place some racers during the 21km mass start skate race.

Heidi Kloser finished 8th on the women’s side. Riana Boonstra and Kellie Arthur joined Kloser with finishes in 12th and 13th place.

On the men’s side, Cal Lindberg finished 12th and Parker Cushing was right behind him in 13th place.

The team will prepare for Nationals in Wyoming during March 11-16.

Cycling

The cycling team has been one of the best club teams at CMU, and their dominance only continued last weekend at Road Nationals.

In the Category 3 race, Alex Marr won the Road Race and placed 2nd in the Criterium. Caiden Plummer finished 2nd in the Category 2 Road race.

The Pro Women’s Road Race saw junior Josefine Drier finish 10th while other members on the roster placed strongly in other races.

Sophomore Bailey Scanlan finished 2nd Women Cat 4 Road Race while Kristen Kollus placed 3rd in the Women Cat 4 Criterium and 5th overall in general classification.

Alpine Skiing

Nordic wasn’t the only group to put some strong numbers up. Alpine Skiing had a home ski race at Powderhorn saw a few finishes for the CMU club.

Andrew Elder had a 4th overall finish. Halsey Lucas wasn’t far behind with a finish in 9th place.

For the weekend, the men as a team finished 3rd. For the women, Erin Schmutte and Michaela Rollins placed 19th and 13th.

Alpine is currently competing in regionals at Red Lodge, Montana.
