On Wednesday, Sept. 18 at 7 p.m. the Associated Student Government (ASG) Senate met to discuss, share reports and pass bills necessary to further the progression of resources needed within the Outdoor Program (OP) as well as the funding necessary for the Physical Education Club.

OP Director, Ryan Dutch, was the first presenter of the night, presenting ASG Bill 19-08, which expressed the need for new bikes and equipment for the Mavbikes that the OP rents out to students.

During the presentation, Dutch explained that out of the 55 Mavbikes that were rented out to students, 45 of the Mavbikes were not returned. This is largely due to the issue of bikes being stolen across campus.

To solve the issue, the OP asked for $12,475 in order to buy new bikes and equipment. After brief questioning and discussion, the bill was passed.

Physical Educator Club Treasurer Alaine West presented ASG Bill 19-07 later that night, voicing the need for additional funding in order for the Physical Educator Club to attend the Society of Health and Physical Educators Colorado Conference in Denver.

West explained that the club has raised money through fundraising and individual contributions in order to attend the conference without draining the club’s account. After the presentation and further discussion, the bill was passed.

In addition to the bills by the OP and the Physical Educator Club, there were multiple appointments and resolutions passed. Senator Edwards presented on solutions to parking problems on campus. One solution that Senator Edwards discussed was working for the Food Bank and in return, students would be excused from paying up to three parking tickets.

Towards the end of meeting, there was discussion about the vaping policy on campus. Multiple senators voiced their opinion on the topic and suggested potential policy changes. It was decided that the discussion would be tabled until there was more information and a decision could be made.
