The Historic Avalon is one of the most well-known performance avenues in Grand Junction for music, theatre and dance. This February, the Avalon is hosting a variety of events.

Feb. 2: Doors open at 8 p.m. and performance at 9 p.m. – An Evening with Chris Robinson Brotherhood

This American Blues Rock band are on tour for their newest album and are stopping in for a performance at the Avalon on Feb. 2.

Tickets starting at $30.

Feb. 5: Doors open at 7 p.m. and event begins at 7:30 p.m. – Dinner, Shopping & a Movie: Fantastic Beasts Crimes of Grinelwald

If you shop or eat downtown on Feb. 5, you can bring the receipt to the Avalon to see the movie for free. One admission for every $5 spent downtown on that day. Regular admission is $7. The movie is PG-13 and an hour and 14 minutes long.

Feb. 6: Doors open at 7 p.m. and event begins at 7:30 p.m. – Indies at the Avalon: Free Solo

Free Solo is part of a seven-week film series being shown on Wednesday evenings. This documentary is rated PG-13 for strong language and is 97 minutes long. According to the Historic Avalon Theatre’s webpage the film is produced by “award-winning documentary filmmaker E. Chai Vasarhelyi (“MERU”) and world-renowned photographer and mountaineer Jimmy Chin.” This National Geographic Documentary depicts the life of the free soloist climber Alex Honnold during his journey to complete his lifelong dream of climbing the 3,000 foot El Capitan in Yosemite National Park, one of the world’s most famous rock-faces.

Tickets are currently on sale: $60 to see all 7 films, $10 per individual film.

Feb. 9 & 10: Doors open at 6:30 p.m. and event begins at 7:30 p.m. – Grand Junction Symphony Orchestra: Mozart 40

The Grand Junction Symphony Orchestra will be performing Mozart’s “Great G minor Symphony” No. 40 and GJSO’s main oboist, William Aikens, will perform Strauss’ Oboe Concerto.

Tickets are currently on sale: $5-$40.

Feb. 11: Doors open at 7 p.m. and event begins at 7:30 pm – CMU at the Avalon: Reefer Madness

The Avalon will be showing the original 1936 Reefer Madness film. The movie will be followed by a panel discussion.

Feb. 12: Doors open at 6 p.m. and event begins at 7 p.m. – Larry, Steve and Rudy: The Gatlin Brothers

The Gatlin Brothers have been in the music business for around 62 years and have been on some of largest and most iconic stages such as the Grammy Awards and the Tonight Show with Johnny Carson.

Tickets are currently on sale: $20-$45.

Feb. 13: Doors open at 7 p.m. and event begins at 7:30 p.m. – Indies at the Avalon: Lost in Paris

Another film in the seven-week series. Dominique Abel and Fiona Gordan filmed and star in this international comedy. Antics and slapstick galore.

Tickets are currently on sale: $60 to see all 7 films, $10 per individual film.

Feb. 17: Doors open at 6 p.m. and event begins at 7 p.m. – Golden Dragon Acrobats

The Golden Dragon Acrobats have been recognized within the United States and abroad as “the premiere Chinese acrobatic touring company of today,” according to the Avalon’s website. Danny Chang and Angela Chang combine numerous aspects, such as acrobatics, traditional dance and theatrical techniques, to present a breathtaking performance.
