Both Maverick Men’s and Women’s Swim and Dive Teams finished day two of the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC) Tournament in first place.

The women’s swim and dive team ended the day with 557.50 points with Oklahoma Baptist University (OBU) finishing second with 261 points.

Colorado Mesa University’s (CMU) Men’s Swim and Dive Team finished the day with 514.50 points. Colorado School of Mines (CSM) is doing everything they can to make this tournament go down to the wire as they are in second place with 372.50 points.

Day two came down to the 400-yard medley for CMU and CSM.

If the Orediggers won that race they would have finished the day only two points behind the Mavericks. That would position the Orediggers to make a push for first in the final two days of the RMAC Tournament.

The Mavericks medley team of Austin Lane, Mahmoud Elgayar, Ben Sampson and Matheus Laperreire were ready to compete. Lane, Elgayar, and Laperreire are sophomores with Sampson being the only freshman on the medley team.

CMU’s team finished with a time of 3:15.57 which was about three seconds faster than CSM’s team that finished in second.

The men’s finals opened with sophomore Jake Simmons winning the 400-yard individual medley for CMU with a time of 4:02.36. Junior Tucker Adams took second for the Mavericks with a time of 4:08.03.

Laperreire finished the 200-yard freestyle in first with a time of 1:37.83. He finished just about two seconds ahead of Oklahoma Christian University’s Brandon Heredia.

The Mavericks opened the women’s finals with junior Noel Scott finishing third in the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 56.57. Scott finished .03 seconds behind Annie Osmun for CSM.

Junior Grace Payton won the 400-yard individual medley by exactly a second as she ended with a time of 4:32.24. Juniors Kennedy Bright and Isabelle Hansson took third and fourth to contribute 31 total points to CMU’s total.

CMU’s women dominated the 200-yard freestyle as they took the top five spots with freshman Lauren White coming out on top with a time of 1:51.36.

The women also won the team medley with a time of 3:46.82. The team consisted of freshman Elsa Huebsch, junior Lily Borgenheimer, Scott and sophomore Logan Anderson.

CMU’s women’s diving team took the second, third and fourth places in the one-meter diving event. Junior Natalya Dahlke finished second for the Mavericks with a total score of 407.35 points.

The Mavericks continue the RMAC Tournament with the women’s prelims starting at 9 a.m.
