Whether you smoke it or just constantly smell it coming from your next-door neighbor’s room, you have probably been exposed to weed at least once throughout your college career.
It is extremely difficult to avoid exposure to this substance when living on campus. The primary reason for this is because the dorms are a student’s home.
Many of these students do not have cars, so that means all of their belongings must be kept in their room.
And for the students who enjoy getting high, this includes their stash and perhaps, some paraphernalia. Marijuana is ubiquitous among college campuses, especially in Colorado.
The Colorado Mesa University Student handbook states, “The possession or use of alcoholic beverages and illegal drugs is not allowed in any residence halls. Alcoholic beverages may not be used by, possessed by, or distributed to any person under twenty-one (21) years of age. Illegal drugs, including marijuana, may not be used by, possessed by, or distributed to anyone on campus property, to include all campus buildings.”
So how are all these students getting marijuana onto campus facilities?
This question really made me curious, because weed is not a subtle smelling substance. I decided to ask some of my more stoner-inclined friends how they went about hiding their goods on campus.
The Pill Bottle
I have heard of this trick many times, and for some, it seems to work. My maverick friend, who shall remain unnamed, told me that he empties out a pill bottle and puts his weed in.
After that, he shoves it to the back of his desk drawer and it appears to be a regular Tylenol bottle.
The Coat Pocket
Another one of my friends told me that he just leaves it in his coat pocket. He makes sure to zip it up every time, allowing as little amount of scent as possible to escape.
He then hangs up his coat on a random hanger in the middle of the closet. He suspects anyone trying to catch him “isn’t going to check every pocket of every jacket.”
The Pencil Bag (among pencils)
Another girl I spoke with told me that she wraps her marijuana up in tinfoil and then zips it away into the bottom of her pencil bag.
She said she typically keeps the bag in her dresser. Just like everyone else I talked to, she believes the chances on enforcement finding it are highly unlikely.
And the most creative: The Pepsi Can
This trick has been around for a long time, however, still proves to be successful. A friend of mine, who no longer lives in the dorms told me her unwavering trick.
Apparently, she ordered what seems to be a can of Pepsi online; however, it is actually a marijuana container.
The top and the bottom screw apart, but the seam where they meet is flawless. Inside the can, is a hollow, plastic space to place whatever you wish to conceal.
Even the density of the can seems real. She told me “that if you want to be 100% safe, it is worth it to spend a little bit of money and invest in a full proof hiding mechanism.”
These are just a few of the ways students choose to conceal their goods, one can only imagine what others do.
Just like all of us, though, resident assistants and cops were students at some point, so they’ve heard most of the tricks.
There are fines and punishment, that can even lead to expulsion when one is caught. Some professions won’t even turn a blind eye towards people with offenses like these. So, my advice to you?
Leave it off campus. Do whatever you wish and enjoy life on your own time, even if that includes lighting up every once in awhile.
Bringing it on campus is not the worth the risk and repercussions that coincide. Most of all just be sure to lay low, and not bring any unnecessary attention to yourself.
