Horizon Magazine is proud of the work it has done this entire school year, and cordially invites all students, professors, faculty and Grand Junction inhabitants to attend the launch of “The Chaos Spectrum.”
The launch party for the spring 2017 semester issue will be on April 13th. It will be held at the Ale House from 7-11 p.m., with happy hour prices on some drinks. There will also be a photobooth and a trivia game with prizes. KMSA will be playing music.
Horizon is the entirely student run magazine on campus. The editor-in-chief, managing editor, art director, photo editor, advertising director and social media director all work together each semester to create a whole new experience for our audience. There are writers, photographers and designers, all students, that contribute each semester to the hard work of making a magazine.
In the past we’ve had popular issues such as the “Go” magazine, all about traveling the world, and “to be Human,” an issue that focused on the human experience. This semester our magazine is titled “The Chaos Spectrum.” This issue focuses more on busy nature of life in general, with sections of expression, culture and science. Professors and students alike will be featured in pictures and quotes throughout the entire magazine.
There are stories about theater, modeling, entropy, nature’s effect on fashion and politics. Amazing pieces of artwork and photography highlighting each page. Horizon Magazine is supported by students and businesses across the Grand Valley area. The magazine is distributed all over campus and to some local businesses in town and is always free to read.
Almost every year, Horizon welcomes a completely new staff. For the 2016 to 2017 school year, Horizon’s editor-in-chief was Madison Temple. Temple, as well as her Managing Editor Kelsea Long and Art Director Josh Felix, will be graduating from Colorado Mesa University this spring. The new editor-in-chief for the 2017 to 2018 school year is currently being hired. All other positions are also going through the interviewing process.
This year’s staff has worked hard to better the structure of the organization for future staff. The budget was expanded during the biannual to allow for travel and conference expenses, so next year’s staff can look forward to widening their knowledge of professional magazines.
Horizon has existed at the CMU campus for many years. In fact, the current professor advisor, Dr. Megan Fromm, used to be one of the editors for the magazine while she was attending as a student. Over the years, the style and process of the magazine has changed and evolved, becoming more creative and professional overall.
We look forward to the progress that future staff members will no doubt make in creating a beautiful magazine. All writers, photographers and designers are volunteer students. All students of any major are welcome and encouraged to join Horizon Magazine to learn, share and create something fantastic.
