The second day of the NCAA Division II Indoor Track and Field Championships concluded on Friday with D’Angelo Foster finishing in 8th place while competing in the Heptathlon.
Foster totaled 2,710 points on the first day from four of the seven events. In the long jump, Foster received 695 points, after a jump of 21-3.5. He received 582 points in the shot put with a throw of 38-0. Another 610 points came from the high jump with a height of 5-10. Finally, was the 60-meter dash with a time of 7.17 giving him another 823 points.
The second day treated Foster better as he competed in the 60-meter hurdles, pole vault and the 1,000-meter run. Foster received 858 points for his 60-meter hurdles (8.51). Foster jumped 14-11 in the pole vault accumulating 775 points. He entered the 1000-meter run in 8th place and his time of 2:45 nabbed him another 817 points to solidify Mesa’s first All-American since 2015. Foster finished with a school record 5160 points after the two days.
Foster originally finished 8th but was awarded 7th place after a participant was disqualified for stepping inside the track.
Nolan Ellis, CMU’s other championship qualifier, will be competing in his pole vault competition on Saturday. This will also be the final day of the event.
