The former Colorado Mesa University football player charged with second-degree assault and tampering with witness or evidence is currently in negotiations to reach a plea deal.
CMU student William Milo, 22, was accused of assaulting and breaking the jaw of a 20-year-old male in late October after a night of drinking and was arrested after incriminating text messages were volunteered to Grand Junction police.
Prosecutor Bo Zeerip, the senior trial deputy district attorney for Mesa County, told the Criterion that he is currently in conversations with Milo’s public defender concerning plea negotiations.
Milo has been seen in court multiple times since his first appearance in February, however, continuance has been filed every time as a plea deal process is likely underway.
Milo, a defensive nose tackle voted preseason defensive player of the year by the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference, was ineligible to play on the CMU football team for the 2016 season due to academic reasons unrelated to the recent legal proceedings.
Milo will be seen in court by Judge Lance Timbreza on March 30.
