Recycle!
Campus has been focusing on a green initiative in the past few years. Lately, the Caf has adopted reusable boxes and started recycling cardboard. Students can do their part by following the system, recycling in dorms and helping with Sustainability Council.
Bills for Fall 2021 are past due
Enrollment in a payment plan or full payment of Fall balances were due on Sept. 15. Students who missed the deadline were charged a $100 late fee and a service charge that is 1% of the balance. The account will receive a service charge once a month until the balance is paid. In order to attend future semesters, students must have the balance below $500 before the next semester begins. Deadlines can be found under the IRIS tab on Colorado Mesa University’s website.
Sports are packing the stands
CMU’s Athletic Department is encouraging students to show up to as many sporting events as they can. With COVID restrictions pulling back, halftime contests and a rowdy student section has re-emerged. From Sept. 24-26, there are two volleyball games, a football game and a women’s soccer game.
Investiture week approaching
Oct. 18-24 is the first investiture in 17 years at CMU. The tradition is to recognize a new authority figure officially. It will include speeches and multiple events during Homecoming week. President John Marshall will be spending a lot of time interacting with students at the events run by Student Life.
Homecoming happening again
Homecoming was moved to the Spring of 2021 last school year, which means Student Life organizations and clubs have a quick turn-around to plan more events for the week-long celebration. This will include a parade, parent’s weekend, a carnival and a bonfire along with many smaller events.
Montrose campus has a birthday
CMU’s Montrose campus turns 30 on Oct. 14. With the installation of a new bathroom, new windows and other improvements in the works, the campus is continuing to expand. It now consists of three buildings and students can complete a welding program and the nursing program on the campus. There will be a panel with donors and administration followed by a barbecue and socializing. Montrose Director Steven Metheny was hired in Spring 2021 after Montrose was left with an interim director for around eight months.
The new ASG judicial branch
The Associated Student Government (ASG) recently appointed three new justices to the Judicial branch. Kyra Rossier is a senior in Political Science, she also owns Copeka, a coffee shop in Grand Junction. Rossier was voted in as the Chief Justice, a very important role in ASG. McKenna Molder is a sophomore majoring in Biology, she now holds an associate justice role. Chloe Ross is also a sophomore, her experience as a paralegal is why the Senate appointed her as the second associate justice. With every role in ASG now appointed, the new administration will be jumping into the legislative process.
