With April being Sexual Assault Awareness Month, several local groups are challenging one of the most pervasive myths about sexual assault.
By using clothing worn by survivors of sexual assault the exhibit, titled “What Were You Wearing? Survivor Art Installation,” aims to overturn the assumption that specific clothing or the act of shedding clothes contributes to sexual assault and violence.
The exhibit is organized by Western Slope Center for Children and Colorado Mesa University’s Sexual Assault Prevention Club (SAP) with help from Latimer House, Goodwill Industries and Hilltop’s Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault Service. The group hopes to spark a serious conversation in the Valley about assumptions around sexual assault.
Two showings of the installation are on April 22 from 11 a.m.-6 p.m., and April 23 from 9 a.m.-5 p.m. in the Meyer Ballroom on the second floor of the University Center.
