The Colorado Mesa University (CMU) Outdoor Program recently changed locations from its former place between Admissions and Residence Life to its new location of the southern end of campus between Houston, Grand Mesa and Lucero Halls.
When asked about their thoughts on the move, the Outdoor Program staff responded only positively and enthusiastically about the move. One staff member only had to say “its awesome,” about the change.
The building itself is definitely bigger. In the previous school year (2017-2018), Little Mavs occupied the top floor and the CMU Custodial staff occupied the bottom.
Both Little Mavs and Custodial moved locations to the northern end of campus, leaving the Outdoor Program to occupy the entire building.
What does this change mean for students you might ask? Well for starters, the new location is no longer in the middle of the campus but now at the very end of the southern end of campus right off of North Avenue.
This means students not occupying the dorms of Lucero, Grand Mesa and Bunting Halls will have a longer walk.
However, with the building being as big as it is this will mean gear can be more organized and each piece of equipment will have its very own special place. This could allow for both shorter search time for individual pieces of gear and shorter wait times for checkout.
The previous location was near a small commuter lot as well as right next to a residential lot. Parking was not the best and trying to find a spot close enough was challenging.
With the new location, the parking lot is a large commuter lot that will allow students to find parking fairly easily on a weekend.
The building also has a
Also between the building and the one-way lane are a handful of parking spots that would allow students to pull right up to the building and load gear straight into their vehicle with no hassle.
For bigger pieces of equipment that can not fit through the front door, there is a smaller parking lot with a few spaces on the side with a huge garage style door that will allow equipment to be moved with ease.
Whichever way you look at it, moving locations was a great thing to happen for the Outdoor Program.
