Before Friday, the Colorado Mesa University (CMU) Men’s Basketball team were attempting to start the new semester on the winning foot with a win against Colorado Christian on January 13; however, Friday night did not go as the Mavericks planned as Denver Metro handed CMU a 80-60 loss.
The Mavericks shot the ball only 52 times on Friday and successfully made 46.2 percent of their field goals and only made four three pointers. The Roadrunners made 15 three pointers and shot 50.9 percent from the field.
Damon Dubots lead Mavericks shooting 7-13 for 14 points and one assist. Three other Mavericks scored in double digits as Emilio Acedo scored the second highest for CMU on the night with 12 points. Acedo also lead the team with four assists.
Peter Moller lead Denver Metro with 19 points and three assists as Cameron Williams threw his name in the hat with 18 points and four assists. Williams leads the Roadrunners in scoring 20.4 points per game games this season.
The Roadrunners got off to a hot and fast start scoring 41 points in the first half as the Mavericks fell behind early and never had the chance to catch up.
Denver Metro went into the half leading the Mavericks 41-24. In the second half, CMU attempted to come back and try to regain some lost ground as they put up 36 points in the second half; however, the lack of consistent defense allowed the Roadrunners to maintain their double digit lead and eventually seal the 80-60 victory.
With the loss on Friday, the Mavericks fall to 8-10 on the season as their promising start at the beginning of the year has been erased.
CMU will attempt to rebound on Saturday as they take on UCCS in Colorado Springs, Colo at 7:30 p.m.
