In the second half, CMU’s efforts were finally rewarded. After scoring his first collegiate goal on Wednesday against Westminster, Niall Saffery opened the scoring with his second career goal after a centered pass from Malik Mennana.
The score remained 1-0 until the 66th minute. Another goal from the center of the box, but this time it was Benji Delgadillo who put the ball away and gave the Mavericks a 2-0 lead. Then it was another Maverick’s player turn to get his first collegiate goal this week. Mennana provided a cross that freshman Conner Lowdermilk put away for the comfortable 3-0 lead.
Entering the final 10 minutes of play Mines were able to get a goal to cut the lead to 3-1. However four minutes later a penalty was awarded to CMU. Moshe Perez converted it to seal the 4-1 victory.
Goalkeeper Briley Guarneri got his 11 win of the season, making four saves on the day.
A Fort Lewis draw on the weekend means the Mavericks regain their second-place standing in the RMAC with a 7-2-1 conference record, only behind Colorado School of Mines with an 8-1-0 record. The Mavericks will now host two games at Walker Field this weekend. The first coming against Colorado Christian University on Friday. Kick-off is scheduled for 4 p.m.
