The most comfortable and relaxing place on campus is Houston Hall Cafe, located on the first floor of Houston Hall. The cafe is perfect for having coffee, studying or meeting with friends before classes or to get a pastry. It’s lovely.
The coffee is actual Starbucks coffee, with the advantage that it is usually less crowded in the morning than the other Starbucks, which is located in the University Center. The place is not a simple coffeehouse, it provides a vast selection of food and is also convenient for having lunch or breakfast.

Here you can buy delicious pastries, cookies, yogurt, sandwiches, cakes, salads and snacks. Moreover, starting this semester, it is possible to ask for the Meal Transfer Plan and get coffee and pastry for breakfast or a sandwich for lunch.
It is very convenient for students who are always running from one class to another, so they can get food more easily without going back to the UC. In addition to that, the food is quite different.
For example, cakes are not the same from the cafeteria and the coffee is actually better since it has less water. For people who don’t like always eating in the dining hall or are too busy with classes during the day, go there.
It’s so awesome and easy to ask for a meal transfer in Houston Hall Cafe.
“I’m really loving the new meal transfers so far. When I don’t make it to the cafeteria before class, I always stop by and get a breakfast sandwich and coffee,” Brennan Probsdorfer, a sophomore at Colorado Mesa University said. “When I get tired of the sandwiches, I just choose to get a pastry instead. It is a quick and easy breakfast.”
The employees are nice and they like interacting with people. “I really love my job, I love helping people, I am super compassionate about people,” Kaytlin Gomez, an employee at Houston Hall Café said. “Some people come here, talk and then they feel better about taking their tests and I think this is awesome because you can remove their test anxiety just by saying hi and talking to some people; it means a lot.”
Unfortunately, the place is only open in the morning and mid-afternoon from 7:30 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., but you can still enjoy a pleasant time between your early classes.
