MavFit is a six-week team challenge for Colorado Mesa University students. The challenge was created to help teams of students reach fitness health and goals in a positive way. The fee is $40 for current CMU students. Sign-ups for the challenge began on Sept. 20 and they go on until Sept. 27.
Body composition measurements and pre-evaluation appointments are mandatory for the competition. Students can choose one day and time with any of the coaches for an appointment. The competition dates start Oct. 9 and runs through Nov. 17. Two or three days before the competition ends, participants will need to make another appointment for body composition and post-evaluations.
The contest includes pre and post body composition measurements and cardiovascular assessments with a certified personal trainer. There will be weekly specialized group workouts led by certified personal trainers.
There will be four weekly group workouts that will be open to anyone in the challenge. Monday and Thursday evening classes will be offered from 5:45 p.m. to 6:45 p.m. Tuesday and Thursday morning classes run from 5:45 a.m. to 6:35 a.m. There will be no group workouts on Wednesdays and Fridays.
Additionally, there will be one bonus team-only workout with the team’s assigned coach. Weekly recovery and regenerate sessions are also included.
There will be a nutrition lunch and learn that takes place on Oct. 25.
Prizes will be awarded to the team who attains the most points for attending group workouts and with the team that loses the most body fat. 10 points will be given to every member of a team attending a single workout. 10 points will be awarded per team member for every .5 percent body fat lost at the end of the six week challenge.
If friends want to sign up on the same team, they must include each other’s information in the enrollment packet.
To enroll, students must go to the rec center front desk to turn in the enrollment packet. Then they will sign up and pay $40. Participants will have to attend the mandatory pre-evaluation and body fat assessment to get body fat measurements by the deadline at 3 p.m. on Oct. 3. The appointment consists of 15 minute with your coach where you will do body fat testing and a three minute step test.
Space is limited to the first 40 attendees who sign up in person at the rec center front desk. Payment has to be made by cash, check and credit cards. There will be no refunds.
