The promise of fall is just around the corner. I know this because Starbucks keeps prompting me to try their new pumpkin spice frappuccino. This means weather should be changing, as should the color of the leaves. There’s just one problem: Grand Junction.
The rest of Colorado is transitioning with ease into the next season, not on this side though. Is this what you call weather, Grand Junction? It’s pathetic, unacceptable even. Monday through Friday this week we’re only supposed to expect one day of rain, but the remainder of the days are just going to be hot, sticky and gross.
According to usclimatedata.com, the annual precipitation is about 9.41 in. and annual snowfall is about 41 in. The average temperature for September is 80° F and the average temperature for October is 66° F. According to me, that’s not good enough.
This year it would be really nice if fall could speed up and get here tomorrow instead of having to wait until mid-October.
Everyone wants solutions, so here are a few:
-Throw on those dad sweaters from the goodwill a little earlier than normal.
-Start trick or treating early by just knocking on doors and see what happens.
-Throw pumpkins at and shame those pesky people that actually do start trick or treating early.
-Contract the flu. We’re all going to get it anyway
-Stop going to the gym now. Start that holiday weight gain a little early.
-Speaking of the holidays, why not just start caroling now?
-Let those hair follicles blossom, just like you would if it were 20 degrees colder
-Build some better bars so we can all go out and forget about the fact that it isn’t fall yet.
Maybe if we follow these simple steps we can will fall to happen.
There’s no real solution to make autumn appear out of thin air, but perhaps mother nature’s sorcery will throw us a bone and shift the climate.
CMU student Tiana O’Connor said, “I could never afford UGG boots because my parents could never afford them, so fall never came for me.” Still, she holds onto the promise of fall.
Many people are tired of this weather and it’s about time we call Grand Junction out on its garbage otherwise nobody is going to win.
At this juncture, it’s unclear if fall will ever come. Will the weather change enough to actually start wearing flannels? Will people take my advice and throw pumpkins at premature trick or treaters? Will Tiana ever get that pair of UGGs? Only time will tell.
While we’re waiting for these answers and autumn, we can all check out the amazing nightlife in Grand Junction. For more information on nightlife check out this helpful and informative article on nightlife in Grand Junction: https://thecrite.com/grand-junction-nightlife-leaves-lot-desired/
