Flat Top Grill is one of the newest additions to the University Center. It’s a new place to provide Colorado Mesa University students burgers made outside of the cafeteria. I went there with a few of my friends, and the experience had both pros and cons.
If I’m being honest, the service wasn’t the best. I get that working at a restaurant in a university would be boring, but one could at least pretend to enjoy frying curly fries. A smile when I give you money wouldn’t hurt either.
My friend’s food took about 15 minutes to come out because they actually forgot about it. It wasn’t my food (thank god, I was so hungry) but still. A little rude.
As for the food itself, I wasn’t too disappointed. I got grilled cheese and curly fries, and had a bite of my friend’s chicken meal as well. The grilled cheese was good, but basic.
Maybe I just have high standards of grilled cheese to the point that just American cheese on bread doesn’t cut it anymore. Yet, you can’t go wrong with some greasy cheese, even if it is basic.
The curly fries though—SO good. Just the right amount of fried and the perfect curl. They were soft and melted in your mouth. If you went just for the curly fries alone, I wouldn’t blame you. Lastly, the chicken. I mean, it was bland, but not exactly bad. I wouldn’t get it again, but I also didn’t gag. It was no KFC.
So to sum it up, the service was crap, but the food was okay. I say they need to get new workers first, then you can go order curly fries and a soda. With that, you can’t go wrong. It was a pretty decent place for a college campus restaurant, all things considered. Curly fries and cheese are better than the regular cafeteria food.
Seriously, go get the curly fries.
