The Colorado Mesa University women’s lacrosse team entered Saturday’s game with a seven-game win streak and a 10-2 record on the season. However, one of the two losses came against the Regis University Rangers back in February. CMU was looking to get some revenge down in Denver.
However, it was not meant to be as the Rangers went on to win the game 16-12. Regis could jump out to a 3-0 lead five minutes into the game before a goal by Jessica Cook gave the Mavericks their first score of the game.
Two more goals by the Mavericks tied the game up a 3-3 before the Rangers went on a run to take a 13-8 lead entering the half. The second half was not as high scoring for either team, and the Mavericks were able win the half 4-3, but it wasn’t enough to win the game.
CMU finished the game with two players with 3 goals, Olivia Hayden and Cook, while the Rangers finished the game with three players with 3 goals on the day. As a team the Mavericks were out shot 38-18 on the day.
Jillian Pfeifer finished with 17 saves for the Mavericks while Court Huston finished with 5 for the Rangers.
The Mavericks will now travel to Colorado Springs to take on UCCS on April 22 for one of their two remaining games before the RMAC playoffs.
